Butia leptospatha can be found in Mato Grosso do Sul state, Brazil and Paraguay 

Moved by L. Noblick in 2006 from the genus Syagrus into Butia. Very rare species, believed to be extinct. Grassy Butia. Subterranean trunk.It sports a very small, thin and onion skin like peduncolar bract. Small globose fruits.
